Gamma Knife :((
9/18/2003
Oh boy!! They said this was a piece of cake...not so. This procedure is used for precise gamma radiation to target the residual membrane. What they failed to tell me was how the halo goes on. The halo is the brace the head goes into, this device must be screwed into the skull. To do this, they had to use 2 novocane shots per pin of which there were 4. So, 8 shots of novocane into my skull, then 4 pins screwed into the skull to secure the halo. Yikes!! This was worse than surgery. The actual treatment took less then one hour, then they unscrewed the halo, got me a room and stayed over night for observation. The points where the novocane shot were, dripped for about 4 days. Gross!!
