Great News!
7/9/2004
Lori has been selected to receive the experimental drug IL13-PE38QQR. She will have surgery tomorrow (the 9th) as scheduled. Early next week she will have a second surgery to implant catheters into her head for a pumped delivery of the drug over a 96 hour period. We are anticipating that Lori will be in the hospital for a week and a half or potentially a little longer.
We are thrilled that Lori will be receiving what appears to be a promising treatment. A doctor involved in the earlier clinical trials responded to an e-mail I sent indicating that, "no Phase I study of GBM ever showed this degree of promise"....."initial results showed 30-50% of patients responding"...."when patients responded the effects were long lasting." We're praying that Lori will respond to the treatment and that the effects will be long lasting. We'd like to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in 2053.
